Sources of News on Guyana

Guyana's daily newspapers, Guyana Chronicle and Stabroek News, have official Web sites in Georgetown. The sites of both daily newspaper provide at least a one-week archive of the daily news.

The Web site of the Ministry of Information provides a variety of news items on Guyana including the Guyana Information Services (GIS) News Bulletins (daily and weekly), GIS Devolpment Magazine and Hinterland Highlights.

The Guyana Review, a monthly national news magazine, offers an online Limited Edition with summaries of the news. An archive of the news summaries is available as well as the Reading Room which features selected articles published in the magazine. The Bookshelf section includes lists of Guyanese books and newsletters.

Kaieteur News, a weekly newspaper published in Guyana, is available online.

The Sunday Mirror, a publication of the People's Progressive Party (PPP), and Guyana Current, a monthly publication of the Association of Concerned Guyanese (Toronto), are available on the Web.

The New Nation, a weekly publication of the People's National Congress (PNC), came online during October, 1999.

Guyana Update, a monthly news publication from the Guyana Embassy in Washington, is posted on some Guyana Web sites.

News clips from Guyana, Justice For All, are available on the Web. The programs examine problems encountered by the poor and the working class in Guyana.

Weekly Update and Spotlight Extra, originating from the Government-owned GTV, has appeared sporadically on the Internet through an affiliate station.

Headline news for the Caribbean, including Guyana, is provided by the Caribbean News Agency (CANA) in both text and audio formats.

Amazonia carries an archive of news articles for Guyana (mainly on the environment).

North American News Services, e.g., CNN and Fox News, report on news from Guyana. Limited archives of Guyana news are also available through Yahoo and Infoseek. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) also carry occassional articles on Guyana.
